The FIRE (Formerly Incarcerated, Radically Empowered) Collective brings together leaders from across the country to foster healing, community, and opportunities to pursue critical scholarship, create art, define policy, and organize against mass incarceration.
Over half a million people re-enter society from prison every year, many after serving decades in inhumane institutions. Some have found community and healing in local peer support groups, but there has not yet been a national movement, led by those who have lived it, to define and understand trauma and healing after incarceration.
The FIRE Collective is building a national network of formerly incarcerated people and their communities who will come together in solidarity to define their experiences on their own terms.
The FIRE Collective is hosting a convening of stakeholders to engage in meaningful conversations around mental health and peer support after incarceration.
